YCT Top 5 Checklist

As “car people” we are challenges by too much choice competing with not enough money, when deciding on which collector car is right for us.

So, here are the Top 5 YCT checklist to help you winnow down the options to something that will deliver enjoyment without sorrow:

1.       Reason for Buying the Car – Childhood dream? Investment (always a bad idea)? Ego (another bad idea)? To Drive on Summy Days?

2.       Your Budget – be clear that the purchase price is only the beginning. There is tax, insurance and at least $1000-$7000 in spend to bring up the maintenance and consumables to spec

3.       Brand or Performance?

If Brand is more important, then just focus on models within the brand that fits your criteria and budget. If performance is the leading criterion, then build a list of cars that have the performance that’s within your budget

4.       Maintenance and Care – Unless you are a wizard with the wrenches, see if there are good shops nearby that can take care of your toy. The last thing you want is someone learning about the marque on your pride-and-joy, at your expense!

Test Drive It! We can’t tell you how important this is. Having bought many cars, both sight unseen and after driving, we can tell you that hands-down, the cars that were test driven are still with us, while many that were never tried before purchase are no longer with the Tribe. This does not mean you need to test the exact car you are going to buy. Just try out a representative model to see if you like the feel of it; the lines, how it feels from the inside; the driving experience and whether the car “speaks to you.”

Welcome to the Tribe! Good luck and Happy Motoring!
